renewPeriod domain status

renewPeriod is the short grace window after a registrar explicitly renews a domain. Inside it, deleting the name still earns the registrar a credit for the renewal cost.

What renewPeriod means

When a registrar sends an explicit renew command, the registry extends the registration and marks the domain renewPeriod. Per RFC 3915 and the ICANN status table, deleting the name inside this window lets the registry credit the renewal cost back to the registrar.

The code is informative rather than restrictive. It blocks nothing and clears on its own once the grace window closes. Its length is registry policy; the .com registry agreement sets five calendar days.

On a domain you are watching

A lookalike carrying renewPeriod was just renewed for another term. It is a useful negative signal: the operator paid to keep the name, so it is not about to lapse into the expiry sequence.

Check a domain’s status codes

The lookup reads a domain’s live RDAP record and returns its current status set.

What to do about renewPeriod

No action is needed. If a renewal you did not request appears, contact the registrar to discuss the options inside the credit window.
